Today we are joined from Germany by Constantine Mollitor who gives the real story of the persecution of the Catholic Church by the Third Reich. In great detail, Constantine dispels the myth of “Hitler’s Pope” and other assorted nonsense with the real details of the Church’s resistance to, as well as persecution by the Nazi regime. Apart from the political and historical details of how the Nazi state broke up Catholic life in Germany, Constantine also shares the many stories of German priests sent to Dachau or other labor camps for upholding the Catholic Faith.

A couple of days ago I stumbled upon some additional information that might be of interest. I mentioned that Catholics of Jewish descent were deported to concentration camps as a retaliation for the position the Dutch bishops took in favor of the Jews. The most famous victim was St. Edith Stein aka Theresia Benedicta a Cruce, OCD.
There are still people who doubt that Theresia Benedicta a Cruce’s death was really a martyrdom. The Dutch General Director Dr. Lenig was interned with her at Amersfoort Camp before the Jewish Catholics were sent to extermination camps. He wrote in a letter to the prioress of St. Theresia Benedicta’s first convent in Cologne dated April 8, 1947 (he also mentions the Loeb siblings [OCSO] in the letter):
“It must be mentioned that, to begin with, all were released that had been brought in by mistake, Protestants, Greek (Bulgarian) Orthodox etc,”
I have found this quote here in English after reading it in German in the book “Im Schatten des Galgens” (In the Shadow of the Gallows) by Msgr. Walter Adolph:

Based on this quote, I think it is quite conclusive that the Dutch Catholics of Jewish descent were deported primarily because of Hatred for the Faith and not because of their Jewish ancestry, otherwise those other Christian Jews would not have been released either. It is improbable that they weren’t of Jewish ancestry since Dr. Lenig starts with the deportation of the Jewish Catholics.
